The following information may be helpful when you review the data regarding Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital offers a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The highest level of care a hospital can offer a newborn is Level 3. We do not have a Nicklaus Children’s Hospital maternity unit. Also, we don’t birth babies at other hospitals in Florida Health Finder. Our NICU provides comprehensive, skilled medical and surgical care for seriously ill newborns from territories and Atlantic/Caribbean nations.

Burn Centres

Florida Health Finder has designated four trauma centres in the state as burn centres. The American Burn Association has designated these centres as providing comprehensive, specialised care for severe burns (either 2nd or 3rd degree burns that affect a substantial percentage of the patient’s body area). Every paediatric patient admitted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for treatment of a burn will be treated at the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital emergency department. All paediatric burn patients who have a mild or moderate burn (from a 1st to 2nd degree burn that affects a smaller area of the body) will be treated at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Trauma Centre

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has been approved by the state as a paediatric trauma centre. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is proud to be one of two state-approved paediatric trauma centres. It also happens to be the only paediatric trauma centre that is freestanding in South Florida.

Paediatric Open Heart florida health finder

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is a Children’s Medical Services Centre (CMS) Paediatric Cardiovascular Centre that performs more heart procedures and has better outcomes than any other facility.

Adult Open Heart florida health finder

The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, a paediatric facility that treats children aged 21 and under, means that The Heart Institute only treats patients between 18-21 years old.

Organ Transplantation

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has been certified as a Bone Marrow Transplantation Center. The Foundation for Accreditation of Hematopoietic Cell Therapy has accredited the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Bone Marrow Transformation Program.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital works closely with families and patients to determine the best transplant centre for their specific organ or medical condition.
